10 Tips to Crack the NIFT Situation Test:

  1. START WITH BASICS

Learn to make simple basic shapes like cube, cuboid, pyramid, cylinder and prism using paper. Most of your 3-D models will be a combination of these shapes, so knowing this is of high importance. Slowly make the challenge a bit more tougher, like start making complex shapes like cone, polygon, sphere, hemisphere etc. Also having a strong foundation in design principles, color theory, and basic sketching is important. This approach will equip you with the confidence and knowledge to tackle any design challenge thrown your way.

  1. FAMILIARISE WITH MATERIALS

Once you are clear with the basic shapes, start experimenting with various materials which are easily available in your surroundings. You could start with something as simple as paper follow it up with materials like cardboard, paper, fabric, clay, rubber bands, straw, ice cream sticks, cotton thermocol, wire, toothpicks, glazing paper and then raise the bar and work with mount board, coloured plastic clay, transparent sheets, beads, cartridge paper, silver/golden sheets etc. Learn basic techniques like cutting, folding, and joining. Familiarity with different materials allows you to explore diverse design possibilities during the test. Learning various techniques helps you to come up with out of the box ideas during the test and there won’t be any restriction for your imagination to be transformed into reality. By this time you can have a set of important tools at your desk: Geometry box, metal ruler, paper knife, scissors, cello tape, glue stick, fevicol, pins, markers, etc..

  1. MASTER TIME MANAGEMENT

Design is thinking made visual, but that doesn’t mean you can keep thinking and give minimal time for the 3D model. Whatever you ideate/practice, if you can’t finish it off within the given time frame, you are going to miss out. The single most important skill everyone needs to have is to execute your ideas within the limited time. So always practice with a timer and try to finish within 80% of the given time. That is if the test is 3 hours, imagine you only have around 2.5 hours to do the test. Slowly a workflow develops in your mind that helps you think & move faster – brainstorming, prototyping, refinement with execution.

  1. SHARPEN YOUR OBSERVATION SKILLS

Notice the world around you – shapes, textures, patterns. This fuels your creative wellspring. Simulate the test environment at home. Work with diverse materials, set time limits, and refine your model-making skills. Focus on conceptualization, material usage, innovation, aesthetics, and presentation. You could work on a 3D model and once completed you could take out good references from Pinterest to see where all you could have improved.

  1. GET A GRIP OF THE BATTLEFIELD

To win any war, the battlefield must be first understood thoroughly. Know what type of design task you’ll encounter, the duration, previous year questions, toppers strategy and the materials provided. Familiarity breeds confidence! Your model should communicate you clearly.

  1. DO NOT FORGET THE WRITE UP

Probably the most unattended part by the aspirants. Your write up is the icing on the cake, it tops up your design by conveying anything that you couldnt in your model.Briefly explain your thought process, design choices, and the story behind your creation. Always remember – every great design begins with an even better story.

  1. ADAPTABILITY IS THE KEY

The Studio Test often includes surprise elements. Stay flexible and adapt to new challenges as they come.

  1. PRACTICE MOCK TESTS

By taking mock tests and getting regular feedback, you can recognize your strengths and weaknesses and plan ahead. Are you looking for previous year questions? We have got you covered: WhatsApp Us

Design Journal: A design journal can be a valuable tool for a designer at any time. Document your ideas, inspirations, and progress. It helps you to reflect on your work and make improvements. You can see your work improving as time progresses.

  1. BELIEVE IN YOURSELF

The worst enemy to creativity is self-doubt. NIFT Situation Test is not just about technical skills, but also about your passion and potential. Show your enthusiasm, stay positive, and let your personality shine through the design. Design is your intelligence made visible!
Note: And at last practice practice and practice a looooooooooot. It might not increase your creativity in a short span of time but it will definitely increase your pace & confidence.
Also it is always better to have a mentor. A mentor saves a lot of your time and guides you faster into an independent thinker, challenges your creativity, and makes you travel the less explored path!
